Knit Wits 2
The Knit Wits 2 is a knitting group that meets at the church on every other Thursday morning at 10 a.m. The group meets from September through June and takes a breather during the summer.
It seems that many times something good happens as the result of a sadness in someone’ s life and this is the case with the Knit Wits 2. Five years ago church member Anna Dary, lost her granddaughter Felicia Dary, age 12, to Cancer. Felicia belonged to a knitting club in her church in Tennessee and enjoyed making things for others. Anna made things here and sent them to Tennessee to support Felicia and her group. When Felicia became very ill she suggested to her grandmother that the kids at our church might like to have a knitting club also and asked Grandma to start one.
Knit Wits 2 was born.
It has been five years since Felicia left us, the kids’ participation has dwindled but the group of adults has become stronger. They all enjoy knitting and bring any challenges they are having with a specific project to the group for assistance. New knitters are encouraged to attend and everyone helps with the teaching.
In addition to knitting for themselves the group knits for several mission projects. They knit baby hats for preemie babies at local hospitals; helmet liners for our troops in harms way; dolls for children with Aids in Africa, scarves for our local homeless population and prayer shawls. They have also made fleece blankets for the homeless. As you can see they are a busy group and the welcome mat is always out.
